AUTOMOBILE RAMS
FUNERAL CARRIAGE.
Driver Absent, Machine Runs Away,
But is Stopped By Lawyer
After Lively Chase

Stamford.
Sept. 17.-George P. Rowell, a young
Stamford lawyer, stopped a runaway automobile here
yesterday.
Percy Rathbourne, a
chauffeur, left his automobile delivery wagon
in Atlantic street. Some one threw
the brake off and the machine darted
across the street, running into a
funeral procession. The car hit a
team of horses and knocked them
down. Four women in the funeral
carriage jumped out, screaming.
Several men rushed to the scene,
but the automobile was on its way
before they arrived. Mr. Rowell, who
was some distance down the street,
ran out from the sidewalk and after
a short chase jumped into the auto-
mobile. He quickly got control of
the machine and stopped it.
