Full Text

The publishing of the laws of the United States has been taken from the Argus, of Frankfort, Ky. and given to the Commentator. This change has been made in consequence of Mr. Kendall's preference of General Jackson for the next presidency, instead of the powers that be. This shows the lengths to which the present administration will go, in punishing refractory printers, and rewarding those who will support them. By the way, is there not danger that the Liberty Hall will be cashiered—[its editor, it has been whispered, was "cashiered by authority" less than a year ago, and thrown out of a snug birth at Washington as editor of the government paper; and this has been mentioned as one reason why he has since been so fretful and peevish, and more so of late, as the probability lessens of getting on a bench]—but this is a digression: we were going to say, is there not danger that the Liberty Hall will be cashiered for striking its flag? The head of that paper is no longer ornamented with that imposing line, "Publishers of the Laws of the United States." Alas for the prospects of King Harry, if even the government paper in Cincinnati is ashamed to wear his livery.

By the following article from the Frankfort Argus of the 10th instant, it appears that the glorious eighth of January was handsomely celebrated in that place. It will be seen that the Legislature of Kentucky passed resolutions directing national salutes to be fired at sunrise and at noon, and that both branches adjourned at an early hour on that day. This was as it should be, and well becomes the patriotism of that gallant state.
