Director Named in 'Make-It-Yourself With-Wool' Contest

Girls in this area can obtain entry blanks for the Montana section of the "Make It Yourself With Wool" contest directly from Mrs. E. L. Petersen, Box 288, Telephone 848, of Sidney, who has been appointed contest director for this district: or contact the Home Economics teachers.

Mrs. Petersen says that the contest, which is sponsored by the Wool Bureau and the Montana Wool Growers Auxiliary, is open to all girls between 14 and 22.

Entrants have only to make a dress. suit or ensemble of their choice of all-wool fabric. There are numerous district, state and national . prizes which include scholarships, U. S. Savings bonds, Singer sewing machines, and a two-week trip to Europe for the national grand prize winners in the junior and senior divisions.

The purpose of the contest is educational, to encourage home sewing and to show young girls how easy it is to sew with wool.

Girls may enter at any time between now and Oct. 4th, but have until Nov. 15 to finish the garment, when the district finals will be held at Sidney. State finals will be held later in the fall, and the national finals will take place in Portland, Ore., next January- during the annual convention of the National Wool Growers Association. State winners receive a free trip to the finals provided by the F. W. Woolworth Co.

Contestants compete in one of three divisions: Junior, for girls between the ages of 14 and 17;
Senior, for girls 18 to 22 inclusive. and Sub-deb, for girls 13 to 16. The Sub-deb division will have greater emphasis this year and girls in this division will receive a larger number of prizes than ever before.

The 19 participating states include Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri. Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Donors of prizes include Clauss Cutlery Co., Coats and Clark, Inc., John Dritz and Sons, McCall's Patterns, Singer Sewing Machine Co., Simplicity Patterns, and the Woolite Co. Mills contributing awards are Dorman Mills, Forstmann Woolen Co., Sag-No-Mor Jersey by Wyner, Standard Felt Co., and Strathmore Mills.
