Claim 4,000 Turned Away
Smith and Davis Expected to Open Up

WASHINGTON, Jan. 17. -- The American Liberty League announced today it has turned away 4,000 who wanted to attend the dinner here January 25. It was reported that 2,000 available seats were taken two weeks ago. Applications continue to pour in at the rate of 700 daily, League heads said.

Wide interest has been whipped up in the League dinner due to the general belief that its speakers, some of them Democrats, are going to open a bitter attack on President Roosevelt and his policies. Old Democratic war horse, former Gov. Alfred E. Smith, of New York, is scheduled among the principal speakers, as is John W. Davis, former Democratic presidential candidate.
