Of Pacific Overtures.

APRIL 21.

In our last we announced, from the most undoubted authority, that negotiations of a pacific nature had actually been commenced and were going on with all the dispatch customary in diplomatic affairs. We have now the pleasure of confirming that statement, by the arrival of another flag of truce from France; with dispatches which were delivered at Mr. Fox's office on Sunday. Of the issue of these negotiations, we are by no means sanguine in our expectations; but we have the utmost confidence in his majesty's ministers, that they will sacrifice neither the honor nor interest of their country, to obtain the momentary triumph of a hollow truce, which must shortly terminate either in the ruin of the British Empire, or in a more desperate war.
