The Duke de Choiseul has wrote to the Intendants of Marine, that the Pensions and Salaries of the Seamen, whether Invalids or in Service, will be instantly paid; that the Officers and Sailors to whom the Half-pay had been formerly stopt, would now be allowed it; that the Widow of a Mariner killed either in the King's Ships or on Board Privateers, would be put on the Pension of the State; and that his Majesty is firmly resolved to restore, entirely and speedily, the Marine of France.
Let Our Enemies take for an Axiom, that France can always do what she will, when she employs all the Means she has in her Hands to preserve the Ascendant which her Situation, her Power, and her Riches, give her over those haughty Islanders, who make such an important Figure in Europe only because she has too much neglected in the Beginning to curb and confound their Presumption.
A Body of between 25 and 30,000 Men is assembling in Brittany here with other Preparations, sufficiently indicate an approaching Expedition; of which the Vicount de Belunce and the Chevalier de St. Croix, who are both at Brest, will probably have the Direction.
