Steak and French Fried Potatoes Is President's Favorite Dish

Can you guess the favorite dish of our new first executive? If you're any kind of a guesser at all, you'll hit it right the first time-for his preferred dish is the choice of millions of other Americans-steak and french fried potatoes-when they can get it.

Before he became President, Mrs. Truman cooked all her husband's breakfasts and some dinners. Even while he was vice president, Mrs. Truman continued doing her own marketing and most of the cooking. As a matter of fact, the then Vice President Truman was not opposed to presiding over the kitchen stove himself. He once excused himself from a meeting with this amusing exit line, "Sorry boys, have to go home now to cook the Missus her dinner. It's her night off."

The chief executive enjoys a hearty breakfast of orange juice, cereal, eggs and donuts or rolls and coffee. He breakfasts early-in time to be at his White House desk before eight in the morning.

The Truman's 21-year-old daughter, Mary Margaret, selects fried chicken, chocolate cake and chocolate pie as her favorite dishes. Mrs. Truman, herself, carrying out the family taste for typical American foods, prefers corned beef hash.

Yes, the Trumans are clearly the kind of people you could invite to dinner any night in the week without worrying.
