Extract of a Letter from Demarara, (leeward of Surinam) May 18, 1767.
"On the 24th of April, at 5 in the morning, we were alarmed with another shock of an earthquake, which continued full ten minutes; the motion was from East to West, very quick and vibrating, the weather very heavy rain and calm; my family and I, on the first shock, ran from our bed to the fields, where we remained for some time, awfully frightned, and very wet. This is almost a terrible country, we have had, more or less, Earthquakes every week since the 18th of October last."
