Full Text

Extract of a letter from a master of a vessel in Antigua, dated January 18, 1766.

There are no Stamps used here at present; they enter and clear vessels without them, certifying there are none to be had. The Stampmaster distributed them at first; but they burnt all the paper at St. Kitt's and Nevis, after which the Stampmaster here thought it not safe to have any thing more to do with them, and resigned his office. General Thomas has joined with the Assemblies of the islands to prefer a petition to the King (only) to have the Stamp Act repealed, setting forth they shall not be able to carry on their plantations if the trade from the colonies is stopped. It is expected here that all the men in England, having interest in the islands, will use their interest to have the act repealed.
