Full Text

The Supreme Court refused to grant a writ of error for a new trial in the case of the State against Van Rensselaer, late Post master at Canton, Ohio. Sheriff James started with him for the State prison on Saturday last, where he was sentenced to six years confinement at hard labor. It is a singular fact, that Van Rensselaer, either assumed or had an official guardianship over the Post offices in the northern part of the State, and while he pretended to be watching the movements of his subordinates, was no doubt committing depredations on the mails himself.--Ohio Star.
