The French have furnished some late documents respecting Silesia, which is nearly reduced into subjection to their armies. They give the whole population at 2,044,000, and the Catholics at 954,000. The revenue which the king of Prussia received, was estimated at 6 millions of crowns, or 20 millions of francs. They reckon nearly 2 millions of sheep in the country, with 4 millions pounds of wool. In 1804, nearly 47 thousand persons were employed in the linen manufactories, and the value of the manufacture of cloth is given at a sum exceeding 9 millions of Prussian crowns or 34 million of francs. The woolen manufactures employ nearly 16 thousand persons, and yield above 4 millions crowns. The cotton manufactures increase, and for ten years past have yielded 400,000 crowns, and now double. The whole value of all the manufactures of Silesia has been placed at 20 millions of crowns, annually, of which three quarters are exported: Under the administration of Frederick 2d, the population increased annually from 13 to 14 thousand persons; and in 1840 it was reckoned it would be double what it was in 1740 at the time of the Prussian conquest.
