Six Young Ladies Are Nearly Swamped
In a Row Boat Out In
The Bay.
Yesterday afternoon a merry party
of young ladies left the wharf at the
foot of Prince George street in a row
boat. The party consisted of Miss
Emma White, Miss Mae Miles, Miss
Constance Boucher and Miss Ida Ges-
ner, all of Baltimore: Miss Ruby Som-
ners, of Annapolis, and Miss Clara
Little, of Washington.
The young ladies, some of whom
were good oarswomen, rowed out into
the Severn river. A stiff breeze was
blowing. and after getting out some
distance they lost control of the boat
and were at the mercy of the wind
and the tide. All efforts to row to
ward home were unavailing and they
were drifting out to the bay. when
their predicament was discovered by
the men on a tug boat at work on the
mud machine off the Naval Academy
channel. The tug was sent to their
relief, picked up the party and brought
the young ladies home safely, a sad-
der and a wiser party.
Had assistance not been so timely.
the small boat with its fair crew,
buffeted about by the wind and waves.
was in danger of being swamped.
One of the young ladies declared
"If I ever get out of this boat, I shall
never get in another one," and she
says she means it.
