TALMADGE LEADERS IN HOUSE TO RETURN UNOPPOSED

Hand Of Mitchell Will Continue As Speaker, Twitty As Floor Leader

The Talmadge leadership in the legislature is being returned without opposition.

Speaker Fred Hand leads the procession. He is running without opposition in his home county of Mitchell, and will probably have no opposition for the office of Speaker.

And there is Floor Leader Frank Twitty of Camilla also without opposition.

As a matter of fact five of the members of the group which was called the Big Six at the last session are being returned without opposition.

This group includes Speaker Hand, Floor Leader Twitty, George L. Smith, Speaker Pro Tem of Swainsboro, Jack B. Ray, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of Warrenton and J. Roy McCracken, Chairman of the Committee on the State of the Republic from Jefferson County.

This leaves only one member missing and that member is Frank C. Gross of Toccoa, who is running for Lt. Governor.

In addition these five, there are many other Talmadge leaders without opposition.

Some of them are: Culver Kidd, Milledgeville; Algie J. Trapnell, Statesboro; Jones J. Bargeron, Sardis; Frank M. Cates, Waynesboro; Willie Smith, Carrollton; J. Ebb Duncan, Carrollton; Ben T. Galloway, Moultrie; Byron B. Mangrum, Grovetown; Wilson B. Wilkes, Adel; J. F. Hartley, Roberta; Palmer H. Greene, Cordele; H. C. Edenfield, Swainsboro; W. L. (Roy) Adams, Claxton; John C. Lewis, Sparta; Howard Tamplin, Madison; J. Phil Campbell, Jr., Watkinsville; Dempsey W. Leach, Conyers; Morrison Brazeal, Dawson; B. J. Tarbutton, Sandersville; W. A. Britton, Dalton.

In addition to these four former Thompson supporters who are now supporting Talmadge in the race are being returned without opposition. They are: Charles L. Gowen, Brunswick; Joe L. Johnston, Sylvester; B. N. Nightingale, Brunswick; Dr. G. S. Sumner, Sylvester.

Several other Talmadge supporters who were not in the House the last time are running with opposition. Some of them are Paul Weems, Lyerly; R. L. Webb, Moultrie; Lawton Ursrey, Hazelhurst; Colbert Hawkins, Sylvania; Raymond Wheeler, Donalsonville; LeRoy Tippins, Rochelle.

The return of this large number of Talmadge supporters will guarantee to Governor Talmadge the organization of the House the next session of the Legislature and his control of the House.

Speaker Hand will lead this group. He is a long time member of the Legislature.

For six years he was Speaker Pro Tem of the House and now has been speaker for four years.

His re-election without opposition and the certain re-election of Governor Talmadge means that Fred Hand will be Speaker of the House for four more years.

While this group who are running without opposition will mostly occupy the positions of leadership in the House, there are many others who undoubtedly will be elected to take their places along the side of this group.

There is no doubt of the election of enough Talmadge supporters to constitute a overwhelming majority of the House.

In a great many counties one Talmadge supporter is opposing another and from reading the list of the candidates it can readily be seen that the next Legislature will be composed of Talmadge supporters.
