Full Text

Six States have held their elections for State officers, since the first of this month--and the returns are now looked for with breathless anxiety by the party press of the country. Maryland voted the 2nd, Georgia and Arkansas, the 7th--Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Ohio, the 8th. All of these states went for Harrison in 1840, with the exception of Arkansas. South Carolina holds her state election on the 14th inst., which we believe is the last before the great Presidential contest.--We shall advise our readers of the result, as the returns reach us--we expect to be informed of splendid victories and great gains by both parties; on the one side, Coonkin will be represented heels up and unable to crow, while on the other hand, the cock will be beautifully plucked and Chapman "right side up with care."

So it goes with the politicians. We shall probably hear something of the result in Maryland before issuing our next number.
