Somebody In The
Chimney
Not Santa !

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AP)
The janitor was absolutely right.

"There's somebody in the chimney and I don't think it's Santa Claus," Johnny Ybarra told the sheriff's office early yesterday.

There was and it wasn't Santa.

Deputies found James E. Vance, 24, of Phoenix trapped in the vent pipe.

Booked for investigation of burglary, Vance said he had jammed himself into the top of the vent shortly before 2 a.m., when officers climbed to the roof of the building in nearby Sunnyslope to investigate reports of a noise.

When the police left, Vance said, he was unable to get out.

So he decided to go down. He reached the bottom, shoved his legs out, and got stuck.

He tried to go up again. No luck. He hung there until Ybarra heard him and called police.
