Full Text

We have the pleasure to acquaint the public, that there has not appeared a greater nor more promising prospect of an ensuing plenty, both in corn and the fruits of the earth, these forty years past, than in the present season, throughout the whole kingdom, particularly in Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somersetshire, Dorsetshire, and Cornwall.

Butchers meat, in the following markets, is fallen from six pence and five pence halfpenny to three pence halfpenny and three pence farthing, and none above four pence per pound, viz. at Salisbury, Blandford, Dorchester, Bridport, Axminster, Honiton, and Exeter: further westward, at Newton-bushel, Ashburton, Totnes, Dartmouth, Modbury, King's bridge, &c.

Best fresh butter at five pence per pound, with plenty of fish, salmon, mackerel, whiting, eels, founders, &c.

Wheat indeed still keeps up to the exorbitant price of 14 s. and 14s. 6d. per double bushel of nine gallons each. Cyder, scarce any to be had at any price; but as there is a prodigious blossom all over the Southams, and a fine set, together with greater than usual quantities of wheat sown, now in excellent order, it is hoped both those necessaries of life (particularly in those parts) will in a little time be again found at the tables of the industrious, as well as of the rich and opulent.
