Those Aching Feet
Aching feet are not confined to policemen and postmen. Most of us at some time in our lives have foot trouble.
A great deal of it is needless misery, according to Dr. Alexander Burgio of the American Foot Health Foundation.
Although virtually everyone is born with healthy feet, bad habits of walking and standing, says Dr. Burgio, bring on pains and aches which exhaust the whole body.
Dr. Burgio believes that if a few rules are observed, feet ailments can be kept to a minimum. He suggests the following:
1. Stand straight with the weight resting on the balls of the feet.
2. Stand and walk with the toes pointed straight ahead.
3. Walk with the weight on the outside of the foot.
Dr. Burgio urges mothers to begin training children to stand and walk properly at the earliest possible age. Bad habits are difficult to break in later years. As for care of the feet, the rules are simple enough for any person to follow.
1. Wash the feet daily and dry them thoroughly.
2. Wear shoes, socks and stockings that are one-quarter inch wider and one-half to three-quarters inch longer than the feet.
3. Change shoes, socks and stockings as frequently as possible.
4. Keep shoes repaired and in good condition. Keep feet dry.
