Awards Saturday Evening
The Girl Scouts held their Court of Awards last Saturday evening with an entertainment for their families and friends.
The guests were welcomed by Mrs. Luther Dunbar who has been on the Girl Scout committee since the Girl Scouts were organized in Nome, and who is retiring this year. Mrs. Dunbar told of the growth of scouting in Nome and how it is still expanding to meet the needs of the girls.
Second Class Badges were presented to the following girls: Sadie Bell, Wanda Beltz, Suzanne Fagerstrom, Ruth Glavinovich, Patricia Herman, Christine Hudert, Jeannie Mogg, Madeline Mogg. Arlene Muller, Cecelia Okpealuk, Ann Peterson, Helen Sahlin, Mary Swanberg.
They were awarded by Mrs. Eugene Gallagher, leader of the troop.
First Class Badges were awarded to Diane Boucher, Mary Jeanne Boucher. Carolyn Glavinovich, Andrea Hudert, Maureen Hudert, Sigrid Olson. The awards were made by Mrs. Carl Glavinovich.
The coveted curved bar was awarded to Mary Jeanne Boucher and Sigrid Olson. This is the first time the curved bar has been awarded to any girl scouts in Nome and requires considerable work, according to the leaders.
Mrs. Dunbar was presented with a beautiful ivory pin for her years of service in the group. Mrs. Eugene Gallagher and Mrs. Carl Glavinovich were awarded "thank you" badges in appreciation for the sincere work with the troops as leaders.
The new scout committee is composed of Mrs. Carl Glavinovich, Mrs. Pearse Walsh, Esther McCoy. Mrs. Gus Bjonstad, Mrs. Charles Fagerstrom, Mrs. C. C. Tanner, Mrs. Marc Anderson, Mrs. Walter Glavinovich, Mrs. Ashby Craft. Retiring members are Mrs. L. Dunbar, Mrs. John Hudert, and Mrs. Nels Swanberg, Jr.
