ELKO—On Thursday morning, a driver in the employ of Wells, Fargo & Co., got on a high steam and went on the warpath at the same time. He flourished an ugly looking derringer around, calling hard names some time a terror to the bystanders on the platform of the Cosmopolitan Hotel. Sheriff Fitch was finally informed of what was going on, and with Deputy Murphy appeared upon the scene. In attempting to arrest the man, the pistol was fired, the charge taking effect in Mr. Murphy's face and eyes, badly burning him with powder, the muzzle being closer than desirable to his head. He was immediately taken to the lock-up, where he will probably have abundance of time to get sober and come to some conclusion as to what course he will pursue in this thing of flourishing pistols in public places is altogether too common. This is the third shot that has been fired in the same room within a week, without a serious result; but this sort of thing must be stopped, or some innocent person will get hurt, and then let roughs look out.
