PORTSMOUTH ELECTION.

Five ballotings took place in Portsmouth, before a choice was effected of the seven representatives to which the town is entitled. On the 1st ballot, 650 was the number necessary for a choice, and no one had that number:—2d ballot, 594 necessary for a choice. Andrew Hussey, Whig, and Albert R. Hatch, Loco, had 594 each, and were declared elected. On the 3d ballot, 615 was the number necessary for election, and Jeremiah D. Goodrich had precisely that number. On the 4th ballot, 655 was the necessary number; Jefferson McIntire had 665, and John Pike one more 666, and were declared elected. On the 5th ballot, 583 was the necessary number, and A. B. Vennard and Benjamin F. McIntire were chosen; Vennard having 624, and McIntire 622. A few votes would have entirely changed the election.
