Full Text
It has already been reported that Senator Morton will deliver lectures on the desirableness of a change in our present dangerous system of choosing our chief rulers. Senator Morton was apparently almost the only American statesman who during the last four years clearly foresaw the danger to which the country was subjected by the defects of the electoral system. Immediately after the election of 1872 he began to urge upon Congress a change in the method of electing President and Vice President, and from that time until the end of the last session of the XLIVth Congress he never allowed an opportunity to pass unimproved for urging legislation upon this subject. It is to be hoped that with the experience of the past winter he will be more successful during the coming congress.
