BUENOS AYRES.

The editors of the Baltimore American have received from a correspondent at Buenos Ayres, letters to the 15th April, and the British Packet to the 12th of that month. On the night of the 12th a skirmish took place between Admiral Brown's vessels and a part of the Brazilian squadron at anchor in the Pozos. It was continued the whole of the next day, but no damage of consequence was sustained by either party. The sch'r Alexander, from Santos, at day break on the 13th, found herself lying among the Brazilian squadron, but got into the inner roads of Buenos Ayres without difficulty.

The Government sch'r Sarandi, under command of Com. George Bynon, had arrived at Buenos Ayres from Patagonia, having encountered several squadrons of the Brazilian fleet, all of which she evaded through the excellent seamanship and calm courage of her commander. He is spoken of as a brave and excellent officer.

The following items are copied from the Packet:

The privateer sch'r President, Capt. Prouting, has made six prizes; among them the ship Comet, the brig Fortune, having 6 guns and 25 men, and the brigs Bon Jesus & Goldfinch, with two slaves. The Bon Jesus had arrived at Rio Negro, Patagonia; the Goldfinch struck at that port; 35 of the negroes drowned, the rest saved.

The privateer San Martin, Capt. Adams, has been made into a schr. brig, and was to sail immediately from Patagonia on a cruise; and the American brig Velocity, Smith, with a cargo of hides for Salem. The detained British brig Atalanta, is still in Patagonia.

The prize ship Domingo was off Rio Negro, having stowed all her cargo, in fifty days, fitted out by the Sarandi.—While the pilot is on board to take her into harbor. An American schr. brig, captain's name unknown, from Santos, arrived off that has.

Capt. Mason, has been appointed Captain of the port.

The battery planned some time since by Com. Brown, has rendered the harbour of Rio Negro impregnable. The troops are in excellent condition; a militia has been formed, consisting of 200 men: they are mustered every Sunday morning. The Governor, Don Ramon Rodriguez, is extremely popular, and Patagonia, rich in cattle, saline, & other advantages of soil, picturesque scenery, &c. bids fair not only to an important position of the Republic, but to prove an entire country altogether. The dances began to notice; until then it was but little appreciated, and generally described as desert. Intelligent men who are there, assert that Europeans, especially from the northern, will find few places better adapted to their wants.
