FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Feb. 9,

On Monday night last, about 12 o'clock, the citizens of this town were aroused by the cry of fire. It broke out on the south side of Princess Ann street, between Amelia and William streets, in a ware house owned by Mr. John Scott. The house in which it originated, together with another ware house belonging to Mr. Scott, and a dwelling house belonging to Mr. Thomas Proctor, and occupied by Mrs Graham, being all wooden buildings and contiguous to each other, were consumed without the possibility of saving them, together with a great part of the contents of the ware houses. Between the dwelling house and the next building on the south side, a vacant lot of ground intervened, which enabled the firemen, and other citizens, who had now assembled in considerable numbers, to exert themselves with effect in arresting the progress of the flames. By their exertions the two remaining buildings on that side of the street, and those on the opposite side, were saved.

The buildings consumed were not of much value. The amount of goods destroyed is not ascertained. They were owned by Mr. John Scott, Scott & Richards & John Peck, & Co. The latter are said to be the greatest losers.

The originating house, another warehouse of Mr. Scott, and a dwelling house of Mr. Thomas Proctor occupied by Mrs Graham—all wooden and contiguous—were consumed along with much of the warehouses' contents. A vacant lot allowed citizens and firemen to stop the fire from spreading further, saving remaining buildings on both sides of the street.
