Full Text

Late accounts from St. Salvador state that the "Prince of Braganza," the Brazilian Tiberius, the tyrant of Portugal, has not yet satiated his appetite with the blood of the Pernambuco patriots. He orders many of them to be shot by degrees, first crippling them in the legs, and so on until they are relieved from these excruciating tortures by death.—The sanguinary despot is not satisfied with thus butchering these victims, but confiscates their property, and reduces their wives and children to beggary. Who does not abhor the atrocious crimes of "legitimate" tyrants? What feeling heart does not sigh over the sufferings of unsuccessful patriotism!
