Board Awaits Further Information Before Setting up Plans
With the announcement today of the appointment of I. B. Prince, Hendersonville attorney, as a member of the Henderson county welfare board, the personnel of the board was completed.
As constituted, the board now consists of C. D. Weeks, named for a one-year term by the state board, H. H. Ewbank, named by the board of county commissioners for a two-year term, and Mr. Prince, named by the first two members for a three-year term.
In making the announcement that Mr. Prince had accepted the appointment, the board also announced that J. F. Brooks, magistrate and former county coroner, had agreed to accept the position of county welfare supervisor.
The board further announced that no action would be taken at the present time toward setting up the machinery for the payment of benefits to aged, dependent children, and indigent blind, as provided by the state social security law. The board is now awaiting further information before taking action.
While the law is not definitely understood in all respects, it is believed that the action to be taken will be the preparation of lists of those entitled to benefit under the act. The welfare board will be the authority in such cases, and the actual field work will be done by the supervisor.
The act becomes operative during the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, of this year. Half of the funds to be expended will come from the federal government, one-fourth from the state, and one-fourth from this county.
