THE WEATHER AND CROPS

The week was exceptionally sunshiny, dry, and rather cool, although the temperature was practically normal at the beginning and close of the week. As a rule, there was but one light to moderate shower. The sunshine at Parkersburg averaged 85 per cent. of the possible amount. Corn made good growth and has good color; but the crop is late and the fields generally uneven, owing to late planting and delays in planting. Wheat is nearly all in the stack and threshing has commenced. While the crop is generally fair to good, the heads are rather light in many fields. Oats are being harvested, giving a fair to good crop. A large crop of hay is being secured under most favorable conditions. Pastures are also good but need rain. Buckwheat is making satisfactory growth. The apple crop is generally light, but is fair to good in a few sections. Roads are generally in excellent condition. Rain is needed for all crops.—Howe.
