National WHIG Convention.—This convention composed of 275 delegates, for the nomination of candidates for President and Vice President, assembled at the Universalist church, in Baltimore, on the 1st inst. Henry Clay, of Kentucky, was unanimously nominated for President, and Theodore Frelinghuysen, of New Jersey, John Davis, of Massachusetts, Richard Fillmore, of New York, and John Sergeant, of Pennsylvania, were proposed by friends from their several States, for the Vice Presidency. Upon the third ballot, Mr. Frelinghuysen received 155 votes, and was declared to be duly nominated as candidate for that station, so the Whig banner, with the names of Clay and Frelinghuysen inscribed thereon, is unfurled. If we may judge from the reports made by Whig trumpeters, the convention was an enthusiastic one, such as never witnessed in that party before. On the next day, the Young Men's Convention assembled in that city and confirmed the nomination, so we presume that, if what the Whigs say be true, nothing now remains to be done, but going through with the usual formalities of an election, or Mr. Clay to take possession of the White House. But their tunes may yet be changed. The Democratic National Convention assembles at the same city on the 27th inst., and will present to the American people a brace of names that will arouse a spirit not to be quelled until the thrice distanced courser of the Whig party will be ready to exclaim, "Republics is ungrateful."

Having already heard the enquiry made, who and what is Mr. Frelinghuysen? and presuming that many of our readers have forgotten that there ever was such a man, we would state that some years ago, he was a Senator in Congress from the State of New Jersey, was an active politician, and like Clay in one respect, and Poindexter in another, was taken off the track to resuscitate. They will be taught that used up politicians cannot recruit in as short a period of time as broken down stage horses.
