Imperial county tax collections for 1938-1939 reached a total of $1,036,416, Assessor-Collector Dan Wiest announced Tuesday. This left a delinquency of $169,125. Collections approximated those of last year, he said. The charge made against the taxpayers for the 1938-1939 period was $1,205,545. The charge is not made against property deeded to the state after five years of delinquency in tax payments. Under the present system of taxation, he declared, the charge against the taxpayers becomes less as the percentage of delinquent property ceded to the state increases. Every year more and more of the delinquent property becomes the property of the state and thus is removed from the county tax rolls as taxable property.
