About a Year and a half ago, the Government of that Town petition'd the States of the Province, that a Stoppage might be made to some Part of the abovemention'd River Kilia, which, as represented, would cause the Water before that Town to be much deeper, and of Consequence would tend to promote the Trade and Navigation thereof: which Request was granted, notwithstanding the Opposition made thereto by the Town of Gorcum.
The Inhabitants of Dordrecht thought that the bringing a greater Quantity of Water into their River, would wash away and level the Beds of Sand that are near that Town. Whether it is that this End is not answer'd, or that the Regency of the Town apprehends some bad Effects from too great a Quantity of Water, it wishes at present that a Dam or Ditch might be dug near Papendrecht, to take off a Part of their Waters.
The States of Holland are employ'd in examining whether this new Project will not meet with still greater Inconveniences: The Town of Tergau strenuously opposes it, being apprehensive of great Prejudice from its being put in Execution. This Affair occasions warm Debates in the Assembly of States.
