"Loans and Taxes."
The Hon. John Randolph has so far recovered his health as to take his seat in Congress. On the 22d he made a motion for a reduction in our military expenses. In the course of his remarks he observed that after much enquiry to ascertain the object and views of government, "at last the budget is opened; and the plan avowed is, LOANS AND TAXES." That the friends of the administration would attempt to remove evil if they could not aspire to do good. He wished for a repeal of the Nonintercourse law. "Trade (he observed) like a great water course, or mighty river, once turned from its channel, with difficulty regains it."
The remarks show our great men at Washington wholly incompetent to the administration of the Government; that their acts are weak, ridiculous and destructive to the independence, peace and prosperity of the country.
