Central Illinois and portions of Missouri and Kansas have been visited by disastrous rain storms, which have caused great loss to property of all kinds.

Corning, Mo., 40 miles north of St. Joseph on the Kansas City, St. Joseph and Council Bluffs railroad was inundated by the Missouri river and several houses were swept away. About four miles of the railroad was under water.

All the large streams in Nemaha county, Kansas overflowed and there is scarcely a bridge that has not been damaged or carried away. Seven out of a party of eight persons, who tried to escape in a wagon which was caught in the freshet, were drowned.
