The chief Reason of this Disturbance proceeds from an affront given to these Troops, when 600 Men of the Allied Army passed through that Place, soon after the late Peace, under an Escort of some of that City's Soldiers, conducted by several of the Citizens, by whom the Commander in Chief of the Darmstadt Troops, and his Men were extremely ill used and pushed back, for which the Land of Hesse Darmstadt demands Satisfaction, but has been denied, and the Assessors of the Imperial Chamber were assembled all that Day, who were of opinion that their Dignity was grossly insulted by these Proceedings, the Issue of which was variously talked of.

Event Details
Two regular regiments, 4 battalions of militia, 500 dragoons and hussars of Hessia Darmstadt troops with 30 pieces of cannon arrived at Witzlar, seized the gates, posted throughout the city, forced open doors of burgomaster, 16 aldermen, and other citizens' houses, put magistrates under arrest, and barred entry and exit, causing consternation. This stemmed from an affront to the Darmstadt commander and troops by city soldiers and citizens escorting 600 allied army men through soon after the late peace, where they were ill used and pushed back. Land of Hesse Darmstadt demands satisfaction, denied; assessors of imperial chamber assembled and viewed proceedings as gross insult to dignity.
