Influenza. The evils of a bad thing are often undervalued by means of a favorable name—and the influenza might safely bear a more alarming title. Its title sounds no alarm, it sounds softly and Italian like; but it is a wolf in an unsuspicious garb, and able, therefore, to do the more mischief. The influenza, however, seems not only to be the foundation of pulmonary and other diseases, but is able of itself to destroy life. There are no means of enumerating the numbers of the sick, but the exceptions seem to be on the side of those who are well. Much danger to which men are accustomed, alarms them less than a little peril in a novel shape. A few deaths by the Indian Cholera would carry consternation through the land, but the physician is hardly called in to combat the influenza, till the disease has become too powerful for the patient.

"This Cold." There seems to be a very general complaint of influenza, or as it is more generally termed, this cold. The Legislature of New Jersey was obliged, from the general indisposition of its members, to break up and adjourn its sitting until February next. A court in Delaware, found it impossible to proceed with business, from the same cause, and adjourned immediately after it was organized.
