Silcox Wins Grand Prize

Tom Silcox who claims he has never canned a fruit or arranged a flower, made a clean sweep in all divisions of the annual garden show Sunday to capture the grand prize, awarded to the leading winner of all divisions.
His flowering plant won first prize in that class. His miniature arrangement took a third prize and his specialty and home canning also took awards.
Entries in the show totaled 173, and ranged from five foot big begonias to children's tiny make-believe gardens.
The community center was decorated for the event with an arrangement of spruce boughs, and bears from the Bank. and the walls were covered with a draped seine, borrowed from Knute Solberg Two special decorative arrangements, one made by Frank LeBree and another by the NOB club. also added background atmosphere to the show.
Winners in the various classes were as follows. in order of first second and third: Specimens. flowers. Mrs. W J. Wheeldon, Mr Wheeldon. Mrs. C C. Saeman; flowering plants, Tom Silcox, Mrs John Malutin. Mrs. Carl Sautner: foliage. plants. Mrs Frank Beals. NOB Nursery and Mrs. Homer Lightfoot tied for second, Mrs Glen Banks; vines, Mrs Eddie Getty, Iris Johnson Mrs E R. Weisser; cactus, Mrs. William Robertson. Mrs. John Given, Mrs. Sautner; novelties, Mrs. Emil Knudsen, Mrs. Wheeldon. Mrs. Malutin.

Home produce, fruits Baptist Mission; vegetables, Mrs Henry Eaton and Sprucehaven gardens tied for first; Mrs. Saeman, Dick Lightfoot; home canning. Mrs V. W. Root, Mr. Silcox.

Several other special awards were made by the presidents of the two sponsoring clubs, after the official judging.
