FIRE.

On Sunday morning, about two o'clock, our citizens were alarmed by the cry of fire. The fire broke out in the Cabinet manufactory of Mr. John B. Hopkins, on Benefit street, and which, with its contents, was destroyed. The house of Mr. Joshua Langley, near the establishment of Mr. Hopkins, took fire on the north end, which was completely covered with the flames; but the house, though considerably damaged, was saved by the active exertions of the firemen.

A barn in the rear of the first named building, was also destroyed.

The Carpenter's shop of Messrs. Bushee & Carpenter, took fire, and was saved only by the exertions of a company of boys, with their Lilliputian Engine, No. 6, Jun'r. commanded by William Whipple, son of John Whipple, Esq.

The loss of Mr. Hopkins' property is estimated at $1500—of which $500 was insured.

The fire is thought to have been the work of an incendiary. Several other fires were set on the same night, but were discovered in time to prevent any serious consequences.
