Newspapers making much of CIO Economic Outlook issue calling for vast expansion of social security system. Business "analysts" warning that unions are going to concentrate much more on employer-financed health, old-age and unemployment plans.

Fact is, all unions—CIO particularly—have been focusing their sights on this kind of thing ever since war’s end. Courts have agreed that these are proper subjects for collective bargaining. Danger is that unions winning such contract benefits drop out of the larger fight for enlarged government social security.
