Singular suicide.—Lathrop Shurtliff, of Carver, who was some years since convicted of an attempt to poison some members of his own family, was discovered on Saturday morning last, hanging by his neck and feet in the following singular position—his feet were made fast by a cord to the upper rail of a fence of the usual height, while his neck, with a rope of sufficient length to permit his head to come within a foot or 18 inches of the ground, was tied to a stake somewhat higher than the fence, exhibiting the painful, and at the same time, ludicrous spectacle of a man hanging with his head downwards—our informant represents him, as a man of intemperate habits, and that he had passed the previous evening at a public house.—Barnstable Jour.
