Full Text

Funny But False,—The late State Convention of the "Democracy" gravely announced to the world that the "Corruption" of the Whig party of this State was clearly manifested "in the diminished population of the State"! This is too good a joke to be lost, though the facts in the case are, "on the contrary, quite the reverse." The following are the official figures according to the Census Returns, showing the population of Vermont at each enumeration :

1790 85,416
1830 280,652

1800 154,415
1840 291,918

1810 217,713
1850 314,120

1820 235,761
