Full Text

We mentioned in our last, a report of a duel between Messrs. Gardenier and Campbell, members of Congress. The papers received yesterday mention that a duel was fought between these gentlemen, on Wednesday the 2d inst. and that Mr. Gardenier, (not Mr. Campbell, as has been reported,) was wounded. -- The wound is not apprehended to be dangerous ; but it will prevent Mr. G. from attending in his place for some time. Senator White, of Delaware, acted as his second. Mr. Eppes, a member from Virginia, was Mr. Campbell's second.

It has been observed by a committee of a legislative body lately, that representatives of the people represent their moral character. According to this observation, as members of Congress abuse and shoot each other, and countenance duels, the citizens of the United States must be considered a quarrelsome, barbarous, fighting people.
