TOKYO (NNPA)—More colored troops are on their way to Korea. They are with the Second Infantry Division, which, with the First Marine Division, sailed from the west coast of the United States more than ten days ago.
They are the third battalion of the 9th Infantry Regiment of the Second Infantry Division, which was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington, prior to sailing. Also with the Second Division is the 503 Field Artillery Battalion.
General Douglas MacArthur's summary of the Korean situation Sunday made no specific mention of the 24th Regimental Combat team. These colored troops have seen some of the heaviest fighting, and last Friday scored a 1,000-yard gain, pushing forward, then dropping back part of the way to its original position to avoid creating a dangerous salient.
In a communique issued by General MacArthur at 12:55 a.m. Sunday (10:55 a.m. Saturday, Eastern Daylight Time), it was stated that there was no appreciable change in the vital central sector of the fighting where the best Red Korean divisions are employed.
Repeated attempts to break through defensive positions of the First Cavalry and 25th Infantry Division troops had been thrown back, General MacArthur said.
The 24th Regimental Combat team is attached to the 25th Infantry Division and was fighting about fifteen miles northeast of Yongdong.
