Full Text
It would seem that the United States is mocking itself with falsehood when it professes to believe that "all men are created equal." On one hand, Americans sanctimoniously speak these words: on the other, they ignore civil rights for Negroes. Why this discrimination against Negroes, which has forced them to the point of sit-down strikes and boycotts of stores which refuse them service at lunch counters? Is it that Negroes are not men? Because if all men are created equal, and Negroes are not equal, then Negroes are not men. -Penny Savino in the St. Catherine WHEEL.
