Full Text

It is considered by many not improbable that Mr. Russell will be selected from the diplomatic corps, as the successor of Mr. Adams, at the Court of St. James, should the latter be called, by Mr. Monroe to fill the Department of State. Gallatin would not probably wish to leave France, in which, by birth and education, he is peculiarly fitted to live; and Mr. Pinkney would undoubtedly prefer the gorgeous Court of Russia to any that could be offered him. As for Erving and Eustis, we know not that on the score of talents and services their claims are superior to those of Mr. Russell.
