Elaborate Program Arranged for Unique Entertainment.

STREET PARADE EACH EVENING

Knights From All Over Peninsula to Ride in Tournament Regulation "Grand Concert" will Close Performance.

All arrangements have been completed for the "Society Circus" to be held at the Casino baseball park for five nights, beginning July 30, for the benefit of the Newport News General Hospital.

A well arranged and interesting program of events has been planned for the "circus and it bids fair to be the greatest event of its kind ever held in Tidewater Virginia.

Among some of the most interesting events to be pulled off while the "circus is in progress are a tournament, in which fifteen or twenty knights from the Peninsula will participate, a hose race between teams from the local fire companies a fire drill and many fast athletic events.

The promoters of the affair have arranged for a street parade to precede each night's performance.

The local fire companies, hose running teams, and the performers at the "Circus will participate in the parade which will leave the Casino Park at 7:30 o'clock each evening and pass through the city down West avenue to Twenty-fifth street, east on Twenty-fifth street to Washington avenue, up Washington avenue to Thirty-fourth street, west on Thirty-fourth street to West avenue and thence, returning to down West avenue to the Casino park at 8 o'clock.

The performances in the park will begin each night at 8 o'clock and will be concluded with a grand concert, consisting of music, songs, dances and other amusements.

Following is the complete program for each night performance:

Program for Friday Night.

The performance inside the grounds
is arranged according to the following figures; Parade around the grounds. Grand flourish and announcement of the names and titles of contestants in the tournament, First series of jousts. Potato race for half bushel of potatoes as first prize. Second series of jousts. Fat man's race for blue ribbon water melon as first prize. Third series of jousts. 100-yard dash for a silver cup as first prize. Final series of jousts. Grand presentation of prizes, each winning knight being presented with his prize by his lady. After the main performance there will be a concert in which the features will be coon songs and dances recitations, etc.

Events on Second Night

The second night of the society circus will be marked by exhibition riding and athletic contests as the main features The street parade will include all performers and will follow the route of the first night.

Program on the grounds will include the following: Announcement of the names of contestants, Ladies exhibition riding contest for handsome riding crown as first prize. Half mile run for a medal. Boys' riding contest on ponies: riders not over fifteen years old. Three-legged race. First half of basket ball game; Norfolk vs. Newport News. Back squat race. Gentlemen's road horse class and exhibition of stallions. Hop, step and jump. Second half of basket ball game. Presentation of prizes. The clowns will entertain the audience and bother the performers at all stages of the performance. Handsome prizes will be offered for all contests. and the complete list of these will be announced later.

After the main performance there will be a concert,

Third Nights' Program.

The main features of the third night will be firemen's races and exhibition fire drills. in which four competing companies will take part, with athletic contests in the intervals between the fire drills. The street parade will include all the competing companies including the entire city fire department, and is expected to be the most notable event of the five days program.

The program on the grounds will consist of, the following events: Parade on the grounds by the entire fire department. Firemen's races in which each company will run one hundred yards with a hose cart, couple the hose, and throw a stream of water into the river. The company covering the hundred yards from a standing start. and coupling the hose in the shortest time will receive a handsome trumpet engraved with a legend signifying the manner in which it was won 440-yard race; open for all. Running broad jump. Exhibition fire drill. hook and ladder scaling exercises. Boys' race, for boys under fourteen years old. Standing broad jump. Presentation of prizes.

After the main performance there will be a concert.

Athletic Contests

The fourth night, August 2, will be devoted to basket ball. athletic games and races. steeple chase, riding and gentlemen's saddle class Street parade and parade on the grounds will take place as usual with the following program of events: Basket ball game between Hampton Y. M. C. A. and Newport News Y. M. C. A. Half mile relay race Running high jump. Steeple chase. riding contests. Wheel barrow race. The dives; for height and distance. Second half of the basket ball game. Athletic game: guarding the pins Standing high jump. Gentlemen's saddle class riding contest. Presentation of prizes.

Program for Final Night.

The final night will wind up the basket ball contest with championship game between the winners of the previous games The feature of the horse performance will be an exhibition of hunters. There will be the usual street parade. and the performance on the grounds will open with a parade of pairs of horses to hacks; then to continue with the following: Sack race. 220-yard dash. Basket ball championship game. Obstacle race. Riding exhibition of hunters. Second half of basket ball game. Pole vault. Grand finale exhibition of clowns and vote for the most popular clown Good night ascension of five balloons. After the main performance, the usual concert will take place with special features for the closing night.

Entries Open.

Entries for the above events will be received at Petzold's drug store, corner Twenty-seventh street; Cain- cron's drug store, corner Forty-fourth street and Huntington avenue; Klor's drug store, corner Twenty-sixth street and Washington avenue; the Y. M. C. A., Thirty-second street near Washington avenue: or by any member of the athletic committee. A prize will be given for each event and no entrance fee will be charged Lists of the athletic events may be consulted at the above places and any additional information may be obtained from the athletic committee. consisting of the following: Leroy Van Pelt, W. R. Lynch and Harry Gildner.

A full list of the prizes will be announced later, and the prizes themselves will be exhibited in the show windows of the city merchants Any one desiring to donate any of the above prizes, and have their name appear on the programme. will communicate with Mr. L. B. Manville, treasurer.
