Montville Quarterly Meeting.
It will doubtless be interesting to all the friends of Immanuel, but more especially to the official members of the Home Mission Society, we learn. that this Quarterly Meeting is on the rise. Long have the pious few been weeping over the desolations of Zion in this vicinity, and fervently beseeching God to send faithful laborers into this almost deserted part of his vineyard. To our no small satisfaction Elder John Stevens of Limington, being deeply affected with the urgent requests from this Q. M. for help, received the approbation of the board of the Home Mission Society, and came to our aid in Nov. last, under the character of a Home Missionary. His labors have been abundantly blessed.—Like Paul at Ephesus he has "ceased not to warn every one day and night with tears."—We trust that in the "spirit-land" many will praise God for having directed the steps of his servant hither.
Since brother Stevens entered this field of labor, he has attended protracted meetings in the following towns: Appleton, Hope, Liberty, Lincolnville, and Montville, each of which has been signally owned and blessed of God. As near as may be judged, more than two hundred, among the different denominations, have passed from death to life; sixty of whom have followed their Savior into watery grave, and arisen we trust, to walk with him in newness of life. Backsliders, by scores, have been driven from their hiding places; young christians have been made strong in the God of their salvation, while the old veteran of the Cross, with streaming eyes, and extended hand, exclaimed "Bless God 'tis jubilee." Pressing calls from home and elsewhere, render the stay of our missionary somewhat uncertain, but we fervently pray that the good work begun under his labors may not cease, till not an unconverted sinner can be found in all the land.
