TEN MEN DROP TO THEIR DEATH

Fell With a Cage to the Bottom of a Thousand Foot Coal Mine Shaft.

WIRE CABLE SNAPPED WITHOUT ANY WARNING.

The Miners Were Being Lowered to Work Early in the Morning-A Rescue Party Found All the Bodies Horribly Mangled, Three Beyond Recognition-The Accident Is One of the Most Deplorable in the History of Mining in the Wilkesbarre District Nearly All the Men Killed Were Foreigners.

Wilkesbarre, Pa., April 26. As the result of the breaking of a hoisting rope, attached to a mine cage in the Cunningham shaft of the Delaware, Hudson Coal company at 6:30 this morning, 10 miners were precipitated nearly 1000 feet to death at the bottom of the shaft.

The men were being lowered to work when the accident occurred. The engineer says the machinery was working perfectly when the rope snapped without warning.

A rescue party lowered down the other shaft, found the bodies mangled in a horrible manner.

Seven Dead Identified

Up till noon seven dead have been identified: William Harvey, Frank Rogel, August Zayarcey, John Juritski, Harry McGraw, Anthony Zilvic and Lorenz Warnick.
