The Legislature.

The proceedings in full of the two Houses on Monday are unavoidably crowded out.

In the Senate, on Monday, the bill to establish the county of Alleghany was again considered and rejected.

Mr. Houston's bill to remodel the County Courts, providing among other things for a County Court Judge for each county, was debated by that gentleman for, and Mr. Eaton against it; and rejected.

The Western N. C. Railroad extension bill was made the order of the day for Thursday, at which time it is understood the Senate will go into committee of the whole on the subject.

In the House, on Monday, after the usual morning business, a resolution by Mr. Hill, of Halifax, was adopted, providing for night sessions from seven till ten o'clock.

On motion of Mr. Sharp, the vote by which on Saturday the bill providing for coupon bonds at eight per cent. by the N. C. Railroad was rejected, was re-considered, and the bill taken up and referred to a joint select committee.

The debate upon the mechanic's lien bill was resumed. Messrs. Benbury and Hester opposed the bill, and Messrs. Erwin and Jones advocated it. On motion of Mr. Hill, of Halifax, it was laid on the table, yeas 62, nays 49.

The bill amending the charter of the Wilmington, Charlotte and Rutherford Railroad Company was taken up; and Mr. Meares spoke at length in favor of the measure.

The bill consolidating and amending the charter of the City of Raleigh, was considered during the evening session of the House. On motion of Mr. Routh, his bill extending the corporate limits and providing for nine commissioners, was adopted. Quite a spirited debate ensued upon the bill, which was participated in by Messrs. Lewis of Wake, Jenkins, Routh, and Bledsoe. The bill, as amended, passed by a vote of 72 to 27.

The bill to re-charter the Bank of the State, has passed its second reading in the Senate. The impression seems to be that it will pass that body in a shape not materially different from the charter granted two years ago.
