June 22. Yesterday one of the aide-de-camps of General Riedesel arrived at Lord George Germain's express from New York. It is said, that he brings advice that the greatest discontents prevailed in the rebel provinces, the inhabitants being most heartily tired of the tyranny of their rulers, and exasperated to an amazing degree with their great and good ally the King of France! The disturbances had arose to such an height at Philadelphia, that Monsieur de Luzerne, the French Minister, was actually obliged to get away privately and conceal himself in the country, and General Washington had sent two thousand of his army for the protection of the Congress, who were in the utmost peril of their lives from the fury of the enraged populace.
