BURGLARS KEEP
UP ACTIVITY IN
CITY RESIDENCES
Two more burglaries in El Centro
last night added a grim determination
to the efforts of police to apprehend
the two or three men thought responsible
for the orgy of house breaking here
lately.
Roy L. Wood, state hay inspector,
was the greatest loser from burglaries
last night, when he returned home at
9 o'clock to his residence at 1242
Wensley avenue to find the house had
been ransacked and articles reaching
a total value of $73 stolen.
A Japanese pool hall proprietor at
506 Broadway was another victim,
the burglar taking only $25 in cash
which had been concealed in a
tobacco box. The burglar entered by
prying open the back door of the
pool hall. Officers are of the opinion
the thief must have studied the actions
of the proprietor before the burglary
to know where the money was hidden.
Mr. and Mrs. Wood left home at 7:30
last night, Wood told police, and
returned at 9 o'clock. The burglar
entered through the front door by
using a pass key. Stolen articles were
a .410 shotgun, a .32 automatic, an
organdie dress, a blue dress, a woman's
suit, a zipper sweater and a leather jacket.
Roy Dupont of the police force investigated
the burglary. Wood had moved into
the house on Wensley avenue only
a short time ago.
