POWHATAN COMPANY STORE WAS ROBBED.
$300 MERCHANDISE

Store Broken Into Sunday Morning:
Women Residents Of Area Saw Robbers, They Reported To Officers

Officers are investigating the robbery of the Powhatan company store which occurred early Sunday morning and have recovered part of the $300 worth of merchandise that was stolen.

The store was broken into at 4:30 Sunday morning by knocking out the glass in the front door. It is reported that some women who live near the store saw the burglars and notified a man who lives at some distance from the store. Before he could reach the store, the burglars had left with merchandise valued at approximately $300. The women said that there were several in the gang.

Constable R. D. Gibson and Conservator C. J. Boset were notified and started an investigation that led to the recovery of part of the stolen merchandise. Constable Gibson said that 10 pounds of Brown-Mule chewing tobacco were found under some ties and other merchandise under the carpenters' shop.

It was reported that a quantity of women's dresses, 18 pairs of shoes and a large quantity of women's hosiery, all that was in stock, had been stolen.
