It may be proper to check the progress of an erroneous impression, which is spreading through the Eastern States, originating in the fact of a meeting of the Committee of Foreign Relations having been held one day in the week before last, after the House of Representatives adjourned. The circumstance was purely accidental. That Committee meets, occasionally, upon business referred to it, as other Committees do. On the day in question, the House adjourned as early as 1 o'clock, and the occasion was improved to get Committee together, it being more convenient to command their attention then than it might be in the morning. Of the business which the Committee of Foreign Relations had before it, every reader is apprised who has paid any attention to the matters referred to it. So much of the President's Message as relates to Foreign Affairs, has been referred to that Committee, and nothing more.
